VCHA, consisting of members Lexi, Camila, Kendall, Savannah, Kage, and Kylie, announced their arrival as the highly anticipated worldwide rookies on January 26 at 2 p.m. with the release of their debut single “Girls of the Year” and its eponymous title track. The debut single includes a total of two songs, including the title track “Girls of the Year” and “XO Call Me.”
The title track, “Girls of the Year,” encapsulates VCHA’s precious dreams, bold ambitions, and lofty goals, aiming to represent the girls of the year. Collaborating with Marcus Andersson, known for his work with groups like Leserafam, as well as globally renowned girl group Little Mix, American pop star Demi Lovato, hitmaker Lauren Aquilina, and Chloe Latimer, who has contributed to various K-pop artists like Twice, IU, and Oh My Girl, a talented lineup of songwriters participated in creating the hit songs.
The music video for the new song features scenes of the six members coming together in the practice room, immersed in dance rehearsals as they work towards realizing their dreams. The video intercuts with scenes of them becoming global stars, stepping onto expansive stages and becoming protagonists of fashion magazines. The video showcases VCHA’s enthusiasm and passion as they transform their aspirations into reality, creating anticipation for the bright future they are set to build.
Notably, VCHA will elevate their global presence by taking the stage as the opening act for Twice’s fifth world tour performances on February 2 and 3 in Mexico City, on February 6 and 7 at Allianz Parque in São Paulo, Brazil, and on March 16 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, USA.
VCHA was formed through the collaborative mega-project “A2K” (America2Korea), a collaboration between JYP, Universal Music Group, and Republic Records, the No.1 label in the U.S. according to Billboard. The group name was personally chosen by JYP’s representative producer, Park Jin-young, with the meaning of “VCHA shining light to fans and the world.”
Prior to their official debut single, VCHA released their pre-debut single “SeVit (NEW LIGHT)” and its title track “Y.O.Universe” on September 22, 2023, celebrating the conclusion of the “A2K” project. The music video for “Y.O.Universe” entered the worldwide YouTube trending charts at No.1 the day after its release, also ranking 5th in the U.S., 7th in Brazil, and 8th in Canada, among 33 other regions. Their single “Ready for the World,” released on December 1, surpassed 200,000 streams on Spotify within days of its release.
Recently, VCHA garnered significant global attention as one of the “25 Artists To Watch In 2024” on Grammy.com and was selected as one of the “22 Most Anticipated Albums of 2024” by Nylon magazine, confirming their rising international prominence. JYP’s new girl group VCHA marks the beginning of their active endeavors as they announce their official debut single “Girls of the Year,” propelling them towards becoming the next global superstars.
