Touring Data, a US concert tour box office aggregation company, announced on the 21st (local time) that Blackpink had become the girl group with the highest tour revenue in history after analyzing the ticket revenue for Blackpink’s ongoing world tour “BORN PINK”. They gathered 366,248 people in 26 concerts, earning 78,485,210 dollars (approximately 104.6 billion won) in revenue. They exceeded the 2019 world tour revenue of the former first-place holder Spice Girls (78.2 million dollars and 11 concerts).
The third highest in this category is TLC’s 2000 tour ($72.8 million), followed by Destiny’s Child’s 2004 tour ($70.8 million), and Spice Girls’ 2008 tour ($70 million). Since October last year, Blackpink has exceeded all of them with concerts in North America, Europe, and Korea alone. Touring Data had ranked them first for only last year’s concerts, and all of them were sold out. Blackpink held 26 concerts last year and is currently holding 31 concerts centered on Asia this year.
Blackpink held their first world tour from 2018 to the following year before the COVID-19 outbreak. At that time, they sold 4.72183 million tickets and earned $56.75 million (about 75.7 billion won) in revenue. This is a record that corresponds to seventh place in history. At that time, the average ticket price was $120 (about 160,000 won), but the fact that it has increased by nearly twice to $214 (about 285,000 won) in this BORN PINK tour is also noteworthy.
This Blackpink tour achievement is noteworthy not only among girl groups but also in the entire concert market. Just looking at the results for the two months, they rank 26th in the world tour revenue ranking of all singers last year. BTS, which was 27th in last year’s tour revenue ranking, earned $75.48 million (about 100.6 billion won) by mobilizing 458,145 people in 11 concerts. The ticket price was $164 (about 218,000 won). Although Blackpink’s concert venue was smaller, their average ticket price was about 70,000 won higher than BTS.
