HYBE’s U.S. Girl Group KATSEYE Debuts First Single

HYBE and Geffen Records have launched their American girl group KATSEYE globally.

KATSEYE (comprising Daniella, Lara, Manon, Megan, Sofia, and Yoonchae) released their first single “Debut” at 1 PM KST on the 28th. This marks the beginning for the final members chosen from the audition program “The Debut: Dream Academy,” which saw 120,000 applicants from around the world.

“Debut” is characterized by its upbeat rhythm and catchy melody. Lyrics like “Love me once I know you’ll love me twice” and “I don’t need nobody tryna tell me how to run it” exude boldness and confidence. The song showcases the unique vocals and personalities of the six members, resulting in a vibrant and powerful summer anthem. The production team includes top-tier producers like Ryan Tedder, Grant Boutin, Tyler Spry, and Omer Fedi, who have worked with renowned artists such as Beyoncé, Maroon 5, and Adele.

The music video, directed by Gregory Ohrel—known for his work with Selena Gomez and Zayn—captures the spunky and lovable charm of KATSEYE. The video features the group performing daring stunts, such as moving freely in and out of school and performing in the middle of a busy road, highlighting their identity as representatives of a new era and generation.

The choreography includes dynamic and distinctive moves, particularly involving kicks and hand gestures, capturing viewers’ attention. The overall performance direction was led by Executive Creator Son Sung-deuk.

Following the release of “Debut,” KATSEYE will continue their activities, including a performance at “KCON LA 2024” from July 26-28, where they will engage with global music fans. Additionally, their journey will be documented in the Netflix series “Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE,” set to be released this summer.
