Suga of BTS Enlists in the Military on September 22

Suga is set to begin his military service on September 22. Following a period of basic military training, he will serve as a social service worker. Suga greeted fans on Weverse, saying, “I’ve come to say hello! Thanks to all ARMYs (fan club name), I’ve safely made it here. And now, the time has come. I’ll complete my service diligently and return.”

He continued, “Be careful of the chilly autumn weather. Let’s all stay healthy and see each other in 2025! ARMY!!!! Always thankful and love you all.”

Previously, his agency, Big Hit Music, had announced, “Suga will commence his military duty starting on September 22.” Suga becomes the third BTS member to fulfill his military service obligations, following Jin, who enlisted in December last year, and J-Hope, who enlisted in April this year. Suga, born in 1993, had his enlistment postponed until the end of this year, recommended by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, under the revised Military Service Act in 2020. However, it was announced last month that he had canceled the deferment to fulfill his military service obligations.

Unlike Jin and J-Hope, Suga received a social service worker designation. He underwent shoulder surgery in 2020, and although the official reason remains undisclosed, speculations have arisen that the surgery may have played a role in his service designation.

According to the agency, there won’t be any official events scheduled for the day of his enlistment and entry into the training camp. Notably, BTS will continue together with their agency beyond 2025. Big Hit Music explained, “We have resolved to sign exclusive contracts with all seven members of BTS, namely RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, based on a decision made during the board meeting. Big Hit Music will proceed to sign contracts sequentially with all BTS members based on this board decision.
