According to the list of nominees unveiled on the VMA (MTV Video Music Awards) website, BLACKPINK has secured nominations in several categories, including ‘Best Editing,’ ‘Best Art Direction,’ ‘Best Choreography,’ ‘Best K-pop,’ ‘Group of the Year,’ and ‘Show of the Summer.’ BLACKPINK made history at last year’s event as the first K-pop girl group to perform on the prestigious stage, showcasing their hit song ‘Pink Venom.’
This year’s VMA nominations feature a significant presence of Korean artists, solidifying K-pop’s global popularity. Tomorrow X Together (TXT) received nominations in four categories for their hit track ‘Sugar Rush Ride,’ including ‘Group of the Year,’ ‘Song of the Summer,’ ‘Best Push Performance,’ and ‘Best K-pop.’
Despite ongoing contract disputes, the girl group FIFTY FIFTY also made the nominee list in three categories with their global hit song ‘Cupid,’ competing in categories ‘Group of the Year,’ ‘Song of the Summer,’ and ‘Best K-pop’ .
BTS’s Jungkook, who achieved the remarkable feat of topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart with his solo debut track ‘Seven,’ secured a nomination in the ‘Song of the Summer’ category. This marks Jungkook’s second consecutive nomination in this category, following his nomination last year for his collaboration with Charlie Puth on ‘Left and Right,’ making him the first Korean solo artist to achieve this honor.
In addition to these nominations, groups like Seventeen and Enhypen are also nominated for ‘Group of the Year.’ Meanwhile, Aespa, Seventeen, and Stray Kids are set to compete in the ‘Best K-pop’ category.
Furthermore, Stray Kids and TXT have been included in the performer lineup and are expected to deliver exciting performances during the event.
The MTV Video Music Awards will take place on August 12th at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, USA.
